On the next page, please select the most appropriate appointment for your hair needs and goals. If you are unsure, please begin by scheduling a consultation. If you want your hair done immediately after your consultation, same day appointments are possible. The service must be booked with a paid deposit to secure same day follow up. A basic shampoo and condition can be added on to your consultation appointment at the time of booking.
If you know you have multiple hair and scalp health concerns at the time of booking, I strongly suggest scheduling your follow up appointment promptly, as soon as possible after completing the consultation (within 2-4 weeks). Our treatment plan is based on the condition of your hair. Changes to your hair an scalp condition between the consultation and first appointment may require me to revise your treatment plan. Those revisions may delay your appointment, particularly if I need to purchase additional supplies.
Once scheduled, please read the confirmation email. It contains highly specific directions to the correct building on the Radical Healing campus.
The Fine Print
If you are booking for a minor you must book a consultation first. Fees are the same for children and adults. Appointment duration will depend on our ability to work together to create a safe environment for the child. If the child does not consent to hair care, the styling component of appointment will end. However, demonstrations can continue on a mannequin head to build a relationship and hopefully make a return appointment less rocky. Youth Assent (consent by a minor) is required for any children's service. The service will not continue if I determine the child is experiencing too much emotional pain. This includes crying when their hair is not being touched. This is a trauma-informed, tenderheaded-friendly space that prioritizes sensory support for neurodivergent people of all ages. I encourage you to bring a favorite doll or plushie that they can practice on as I introduce them to each step of the service.
Please bring comfort items with you: electronics, books, food, games, plushies :) You may work during the appointment. Please choose the Low-No Speaking add-on if you would like your appointment to have minimal talking. Please email XheyButterBeauty@gmail.com to collaborate on any accommodations you may need. Breaks are always encouraged. There is takeout, grocery, dollar store, gas station, and coffee nearby. Breaks to stretch, rest, use the restroom, grab coffee, etc. are encouraged within reason. I lock up the salon by 8pm. The only exceptions to this closing time are for each of our personal safety. Whenever possible, please park in the gravel lot where your car is visible from inside the salon. The salon is in a high traffic area with ordinary car break ins. It is your responsibility to secure your belongings and exhibit caution whether you park on or off the property.
All appointments are capped at 4 (four) hours of active styling time. I will set a timer in 1 (one) hour increments. All prices are based on an hourly rate that includes a living wage, facility fee, and appropriate adjustments for intense labor (e.g. loc-by-loc debris removal). As with any service, there may be under anticipated work involved in completing the appointment. Prices and times are given for the least complicated and healthiest hair condition. If you are overdue for maintenance, hourly up-charges and fees for additional services will apply. I will not start any treatment that increases the price without your consent. If continuing the service to my professional satisfaction is beyond what you are able to pay, or longer than the time you are able to spend, we can create a multi appointment treatment plan to complete the service. Every additional appointment requires another deposit of at least 1 hour of hair care at the appropriate hourly rate. The only exception is consultations which must be paid in full at the time of booking.
If you cannot make it to your appointment, your reservation fee can be applied to one reschedule. The “deposit” charged while booking is a reservation fee. It is used to cover the cost of holding an appointment time in my calendar, therefore they are not refundable. In any case, please just reach out to me via phone at 984-212-3286, especially if you are running late. Your appointment may be rescheduled or cancelled if you are more than ten minutes late. I want to treat your hair and scalp to be healthy, reduce dysphoria, affirm a positive self-image, heal trauma, and interrupt negative self talk that over associates your hair with your worth. Even if you no call/no show, I still want to be part of your success. As long as you take responsibility for any lateness and absences with respectful communication, we can make new arrangements.
Masks are required. The salon is a COVID 19 conscious environment that serves and employs immunocompromised people. I reserve the right to ask clients to take a COVID-19 test. This is optional, but if a client refuses, the appointment will be cancelled and the reservation fee deposit will not be returned. If you are ill or sick with any symptoms of any contagious illness, please cancel your appointment and we will reschedule when you are well. Your reservation fee will apply to any appointment rescheduled for medical reasons as long as the client is not a no-show/no-communication. Any other cancellation or reschedule must be made 48 hours in advance.
That said, as a disabled adult I understand that last minute changes can be beyond our control. I will make every effort to communicate if I need to reschedule after your 48-hour cancellation window passes. I expect you to do the same. As an immunocompromised person with disabilities, I cannot put my health at risk to provide services. And I would never expect you to put your health at risk to receive services. This includes more abstract health needs for folks on the autism spectrum. I am an anti-ableist anticapitalist. I will never maliciously charge you for being human. Let’s work together to be realistic and compassionate.
Fees for services are based on a living wage in Durham, North Carolina. If you need a payment arrangement or alternative compensation method (trade for services) I will consider that on a case by case basis. Please be prepared to pay in full at the time of service if you have not secured an alternative with me in advance via email at XheyButterBeauty@gmail.com. In most cases, alternative compensation methods will only be put in place for services after establishing our professional relationship after our initial full service appointment.
If you are unsatisfied with the service you must communicate in writing within 72 hours of the appointment. You are responsible for mitigating your damages by returning to revise the final result within one week. Charges for services rendered—that are later disputed through a payment platform (including but not limited to apps and banks)—without thorough communication with me will be contested. For this reason, any appointment you reserve will be documented. Footage of your service may be used on social media and in marketing materials. You must communicate in writing to XheyButterBeauty@gmail.com if you do not consent to use of your face (in profile or otherwise). I will *never* use footage of children’s faces without both their and their guardians expressed written or audio recorded consent. In general I never post children’s faces on personal professional accounts. However, if a marketing opportunity calls for it, we can negotiate how their image can be used safely and with enthusiastic consent.
Failure to communicate with respect may irrevocably damage our client relationship. I may deny any or all future appointment requests. I will consider significant touch ups to services damaged beyond your control on a case-by-case basis (e.g. re-flat ironing a blow out after a rainy day within 72 hour mitigation period). Under these circumstances, additional work may require another deposit and/or a squeeze in fee.
